I intend to write a story for the age range of 11-14. My attempt was to recreate a dark fairytale set in a fantasy world. The story will be illustrated by myself also. i have posted a rough story structure for my intial idea and some character info.
Rough Story Structure
Act 1- Family holiday
Gerda leaves for her annual family camping trip to the forest
She has an argument with her older brother and runs off into t he woods.
Whilst sobbing a wolf comes to comfort her, she is awestruck and follows the wolf deeper into the forest
She becomes lost in the woods as it is getting dark. She becomes scared of her dark surroundings and hides inside a tree hollow. Gerda decides to sleep there until its morning and then find her family.
Act 2 – Portal to another world
Awoken by a bright light, Gerda suddenly realizes that she is somewhere else. Somewhere she hasn’t been before, an enchanted world. She sees the wolf again but he too, is not the same.
Act 3 – Weylins’ truth
The wolf can communicate with Gerda and explains how she has entered the kingdom of Shayla. The kingdom has been left in a state of chaos since the Emperor had gone mad. Goblins broke into the city gates, attacked the villagers and kidnapped Princess Enid from the palace. The goblin cast a spell on the Emperor to make him go mad, unable to leave his palace to save his true love.
Weylin the Wolf demands that Gerda must help rescue Enid from the goblins before it’s too late and they claim the Emperors throne.
Gerda resists and decides to find her own way back, she enters the enchanted forest. After hours of searching and discovering strange creatures she crosses paths with an angry troll, Weylin comes to her aid. Weylin tells Gerda of his dark past and how he arrived at Shayla and became a wolf. Gerda accepts the warning. They both decide to embark on the adventure.
Act 4- Trip to Fort Sheyla
They make a journey to the Emperors palace and try to talk some sense out of him. They find out where they believe Enid is being kept and how Gerda is the only one who has the power to rescue her.
Act 5 -The journey into the great cave
They enter the goblins layer for their final battle, retrieve Enid and break the curses put on the kingdom of Shayla. As a reward she is offered a home in the Palace of Shayla. And Weylin can finally return to his previous form on earth.
